Natural Forest Restoration

Woods that will outlast us.

We acquire forest land in Germany and restore it naturally. For the long term. Together.

Our mandate

What drives us

Close to nature

We rely on natural forest development rather than plantations or monocultures. The Lübeck Model is our forestry benchmark.

Long-term thinking

Forests need time. Our participation structure is designed for decades – not short-term returns.

Openness

We talk about the forest together. Everyone involved learns what happens at the same time and on equal terms – no gap between those who know and those who are asked.

"We do this alongside everything else, with the means we have and the weight it deserves."

— Matthias v. Bodecker, Initiator

Forestry benchmark

The Lübeck Model

Since the 1990s, the city of Lübeck has demonstrated how close-to-nature forest management works: no clear-cutting, no pesticides, no monocultures. Instead: natural regeneration, minimal intervention, forest as forest. This principle is our forestry foundation.

The forest knows what it needs. We give it space.

Get involved

If forests interest you, write to us.

Waldfreunde is a group of friends and acquaintances who buy forests together and tend to them for the long term. Involvement happens through conversation, not through a form. Those who are interested simply write to us – we work out the rest together.
